Lady Deacons Take Sole Possession of First Place in CACC North Division

Bloomfield, NJ…The Bloomfield College volleyball team (3-11, 2-0 CACC) gained sole possession of first place in the North Division of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a convincing win over Nyack College 3-0 (30-24, 30-24,30-20).

Bloomfield took an early five point lead in game one (11-6), before Nyack rallied at the mid point to tie the game at 15-15.  The Lady Deacons responded by running off five of the next six points to take a 20-16 lead. BC finally closed out game one by the final score of 30-24.  Sonia Perez (San Jose, Costa Rica/Hackensack) sparked the offense with three aces while distributing 12 assists.  Ursula Pereira (Belo Horizante, Brazil/Newark Eastside) led the Lady Deacons' attack with seven kills and five digs while Tiffany Nicole Jackson (Central Islip, NY/Islip) contributed with a four kill effort.
 
BC opened up game two with some sloppy play that allowed Nyack to stay close running the score to 7-7, before the Lady Deacons regrouped and took a commanding 15-9 lead.  Nyack cut the lead to four (25-21) but BC hung on and closed out game two 30-24 garnering a 2-0 lead in the match.  Pereira added six more kills and two blocks to her match totals and Perez tacked on nine assists and four digs.
 
In game three the Lady Deacons got off to another early lead (8-3), but once again the Lady Warriors fought back and tied things up at 10-10.  BC lead 14-10 heading into a Nyack timeout, then BC juggernauted out to a 25-13 lead and never looked back, taking game three 30-20, and the match three games to none.
 
For the match Pereira finished with 17 kills and a .367 hitting %, to go along with eight digs and five total blocks.  Celeste Lindsey (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) added eight kills, three aces, seven digs, and five total blocks.  Perez paced the offense with 31 assists, three aces and seven digs on defense, while Jackson continued to show signs of improvement with a nine kill, six dig total effort.
 
Nyack received strong play on every front from a number of players; Tara Leegwater dished out 18 assists and picked up eight digs.  Taneisha Cantave had a team high nine kills, Lacey McCabe led all players with a match high 13 digs and Wendy Page stuffed five total blocks.
 
Bloomfield returns to action this Saturday, September 22nd, when they travel to Philadelphia, PA to take on another CACC rival, Holy Family and non-conference opponent Clarion University in a tri-match.  The first match, that will feature BC and Holy Family, is set to start at 12:00 PM.
